Phil Jamieson, the lead singer of Australian rock group Grinspoon, has been forced to cancel his solo music tour. The 49-year-old artist had a severe fall during a live performance in Victoria, Australia. He was taken straight to the hospital, where doctors told him he fractured his spine.
The painful accident happened on Friday, August 7, while Phil was performing at a show at The Deck Traralgon. He lost his footing on stage and landed hard against the drum riser. The injury was too severe for him to continue, so an ambulance took him to Latrobe Hospital right away.
Hospital Confirmation and Statements
Phil Jamieson shared the unfortunate news directly with his followers on social media to explain why he could not complete the show.
Speaking on the accident, the rocker gave details about the fall:
“On Friday night I slipped on stage and my spine connected to the drum riser. I was unable to continue with the gig and got an ambulance to Latrobe Hospital,” said Phil Jamieson.
At the hospital, medical staff ran several tests to see the extent of his injury. Early the next morning, doctors confirmed that he fractured his L1 vertebra in his lower back. They told him he must stay in bed to rest and recover.
Explaining his current physical condition, Phil Jamieson shared his regret with his fans:
“I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 (lower back guy), with a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery. This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled,” wrote Phil Jamieson.
“No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment,” he added.
Tour Cancellation and Album Release
The cancelled shows were part of the PJ Air solo tour. The tour was set to go across Australia with support from fellow musical acts Ricky Albeck and Nici Ward. Ticket agencies and venues are currently contacting fans to process full refunds for all dates.
The severe back injury also meant he had to cancel the launch party for his second solo album, titled 10Charlie. Even though he cannot celebrate the release in person, he encouraged his fans to give the new record a listen when it releases.
