To understand your score, you need to know how the high school GPA scale works. Most schools in the United States use a standard 4.0 scale.

On an unweighted scale, an “A” equals 4.0 points, a “B” equals 3.0 points, a “C” equals 2.0 points, and a “D” equals 1.0 point. An unweighted high school GPA measures your grades strictly on this scale without looking at the difficulty of your classes.

A weighted GPA gives extra points for taking hard classes. For example, an “A” in an Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors class might be worth 4.5 or 5.0 points. Our calculator automatically figures out both your weighted and unweighted scores.

3. Pick the class type: Select if the class was Regular, Honors (+0.5), or AP/IB (+1.0).
